mscoree.dll missing....run a dll as an app problem
Hi,
Hope I can get some help on this forum. I have a dimensiomn 4400 desktop which uses the Windows XP Home Edition. When I ran a programme integrity check the results showed two mscoree.dll files missing. I don't know what these files pertain to, but my system is very slow on startup. The other day I tried changeing the desktop background via the control panel and a message popped up telling me that "run a dll as an app has encountered a problem'.The message went on to say that it was the "rundll32.exe" that was causing the problem.Hope someone can offer the solution to these problems.
Regards,
xylon

You can ignore the first message. See the information here. If the rundll32 error has not occurred since that one instance you can charge it off to a fluke. If it continues to appear try running system file checker to replace any missing/damaged system files. To do this go to Start|Run, enter sfc /scannow and click OK. (There is a space before the "/" in /scannow.)

Hi Denny,
The Windoctor programme worked out ok, however , the other command I tried asked for the operating system CD to be installed. When I put in the CD, a message popped up saying that I did not put in the Windows XP Professional CD. Windows XP Professional is not installed on my system at all!!...I use XP Home Edition ,as a result the programme could not ececute the command. Is there a default setting I can activate?
Thanks,Xylon

Hi,
I seem to be having a similar problem as xlon. When I select the desktop properties and try to change to change the background, I get the following message :
Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
It only happens when I click on a Jpeg image, bmp images are ok. The same error occurs when I click on an .htm file. I presume the error happens as a result of trying to generate a thumbnail for it.
Did you ever come up with any answers or have you got any suggestions????
I have tried sfc /scannow but also get an error telling me that the Win XP cd is not inserted. I got round this by changing my CD drive letter back to D as it was when I installed windows (I have 2 hard drives now) but although sfc ran its course, it still didn't solve the problem.
Thanks
Scott
