Did you try rebooting??

Or press CTRL ALT DEL keys at the same time, the task manager should come up.

File---New task

Enter "Explorer" (no quotes) OK.

Do you have your taskbar set at autohide?? If so, move the curser to the bottom of the screen, and see if the taskbar re-appears.

after shutting down, no matter what, it takes several reboots to get my task bar to reload. Any ideas why? it's very frustrating to have to restart my computer so many times to get my programs to act right. running XP on a diminsion 8300 all updates current.

Thanks

Could be malware, could be a virus. Try posting in the Virus/Spyware forum, or Google "Repair Windows XP" for instructions to repair XP.

You could also try this first, run System File Checker.

Start--Run

Type in  "SFC /scannow"  (no quotes, space after SFC)

But a repair or SFC check requires your XP reinstall CD.
