Need Help after an XP Reinstall
I have an Insprion 6000 that about a month ago started functioning poorly. It was very slow and I was having trouble running certain programs (ie I would get 32 bit errors and certain 16 bit errors for example I couldn't use any of the accessories - they wouldn't launch).
I did an XP reinstall and now my computer looks completely different. When I go to the device manager I can see that I don't have drivers installed for the Ethernet, multimedia audio, network controller, PCI modem and the video controller. I've tried to download them from Dell's website without any luck. My laptop won't connect to the internet either via ethernet or via wireless so I've been reduced to copying files on my son's computer and transferring them to my laptop. The specs for my computer are:
1 G4920 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WXGA, NO-SPWG, SAMSUNG... 1 H5897 ASSEMBLY..., CABLE..., COAXIAL ..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4, 6000 1 Y5995 BEZEL..., PLASTIC..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4, NOTEBOOK..., 6000 1 F7970 ASSEMBLY..., ADAPTER..., ALTERNATING CURRENT..., 65W, LEAD FREE..., LITEON... 1 H5639 KEYBOARD..., 87, UNITED STATES..., ENGLAND/ENGLISH..., SINGLE POINTING..., SULLIVAN/TOBAGO... 1 F2951 KIT..., CORD..., FLAT, 3F, D3W/3P, PROPOSITION 65..., UNITED STATES... 1 8267R CONNECTOR..., HEADER..., 2X22, FEMALE..., 2, S, G, 35K, THIRD HEIGHT..., CHIP SET... 1 G5845 HINGE..., COVER..., PLASTIC..., INSPIRON..., 6000 1 K5547 ASSEMBLY..., BASE (ASSEMBLY OR GROUP)..., BOTTOM..., DISCRETE..., CONEXANT SYSTEMS INC...., 6000 1 W4773 PROCESSOR..., 80536, PENTIUM M DOTHAN..., Pentium M Dothan, 1.6GHZ, 2 MEGB, 533FSB..., PLASTIC GRID ARRAY..., C0 1 Y5518 DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE..., 512MB, 400, 64X64, 8K, 200 1 F5135 BATTERY..., PRIMARY..., 11.1V, 6C, LITHIUM..., SIMPLO 1 G4874 KIT..., DOCUMENTATON ON FLOPPY DISK..., SOFTWARE..., POWERDVD..., 5.1 1 G9051 ASSEMBLY..., COMPACT DISK READ WRITE/DIGITAL VIDEO DISK DRIVE COMBO..., 24X, TOSHIBA SAMSUNG STORAGE TECHNOLOGY..., SULLIVAN/TOBAGO... 1 W5322 CARD (CIRCUIT)..., GRAPHICS..., 64MB, M22, 6000 1 W7962 HARD DRIVE..., 80G, 9.5MM, 5.4K, WESTERN DIGITAL..., SCORPIO..., LEAD FREE... 1 T7166 KIT..., SOFTWARE..., WP-PRDCT-STE12, ENGLAND/ENGLISH..., V2 1 N8757 KIT..., DOCUMENTATON ON FLOPPY DISK..., SOFTWARE..., POWERDVD..., 5.3.1012 1 F6749 CARD (CIRCUIT)..., NETWORK..., MINI PCI CARD..., INTEL2915, DELL AMERICAS ORGANIZATION...
The system is only about a year and a half old. I'm wondering what to do next. I have all of my files backed up but I wonder if I did something wrong during the reinstall that caused me to lose all of the drivers. The fonts are all messed up, I have two sets of user information for me.
I'm completely lost at this point and I can't get any help from the dell website. Did I screw this thing up?

2. In Administrative Tools, go to "Services".
3. On the Services screen, scroll down until you find "Wireless Zero Configuration".
4. Start this service.
5. Now go to "Network Connections" and right click your wireless adapter icon.
6. I can't remember exactly which tab it is, but find the one where you have the option
to check or uncheck "Use Windows to configure my wireless connections" or something to that effect. Make sure it is checked.
