Nero/Roxio Software

Nero should not remove any other programs.  I have installed Nero while I had Roxio installed (at the time I had Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 installed).  Maybe instlling the Nero just changed the "default" programs for CD and DVD burning to Nero.  The Roxio is probably still installed.

The only conflict is the "UDF" formatting program.  You can only have one of these type programs on the PC.  Roxio UDF programs are "Direct CD" and in later versions of Roxio it's called "Drag to Disc".  Nero calls their UDF program "InCD".

As far as Roxio V6, it is bad, but they got their act together with  V7.5 and  the current V8 .I have Nero V6 (full paid version) and Roxio V7.5 and I like the Roxio better.  If you would have asked me that when I had Roxio V6 installed I would have said I like Nero better.

Why is Roxio better than Nero. What features? During the Roxio portion of the Sony DVD installation  the installation halted and a meassage appeared that said that in order to continue I had to remove Roxio.But Nero support does not respond to my questions via E-Mail. And I don't do business with companies that don't respond.

I had to Remove Roxio by REMOVE PROGRAMS in Control Panel. So it's not there any more.My decision is whether to install the full Nero paid upgrade or to buy the latest Roxio.

Which Burning program is better depends on who you talk to and what their favorite program is.  I have Nero 6 and and Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 installed (I do PC support and those are the progrms mostly used by my customers).  I find I use Nero for some burning functions and Roxio for others.  Both have a "Line In" audio recording program and the Roxio is "light years" ahead of Nero.

Most vendors will not provide support for the versions that are supplied with hardware, such as the Nero that was supplied with the new DVD burner.  That is not unusual.  It's just like many of the programs that are supplied by Dell with new PC's - the original software vendor does not provide support for them. 

I suspect Nero wanted Roxio uninstalled because of the potential conflict with Nero's InCD and Roxio's Direct CD, as reference in my earlier post.  Having worked with both Roxio and Nero for a long time, I've never saw or heard of Nero telling a user they must uninstall another program before installing Nero - maybe you misinterpreted what the Nero installation program said or was trying to say.  I recently installed a (full version) 30 day trial version of Nero 7 (the current version) and it did not ask or tell me to uninstall Roxio, it did uninstall the Nero Version 6 that I had installed before it would install V7 but that was all.

To add to a recent post, simply click on it, pick Message Options, then Edit.

Nero didn't remove Roxio. The installation halted and a window appeared saying that there was a conflict. I don't remember the exact wording of the remove Roxio instruction. But after removing Roxio Version 5 I was able to continue with the Nero installation.

You said that you can only have one file formatting  UDF program. How did you then resolve the conflict between Roxio Direct CD ( Drag to Disc) and Nero In CD. In CD is now installed on my PC. And from these messages it appears that Roxio is the way to go. So how do I resolve the UDF conflict?

When I installed Nero, I did a custom install and installed everything EXCEPT InCD.  I already had the Roxio "drag to disc" (Direct CD) installed and working OK.  Actually I don't use UDF discs or RW media so I could have uninstalled drag to disc to and I wouldn't have lost anything. 

I was going to make another post anyway.  I just got back from a service call and installing the new (Retail) Nero 7 Ultra on a customer's PC that also has Roxio.  The Nero installation did not say anything abouit Roxio being on the PC.  Nero 7 installed without a problem - I did a "custom" install on the customer's PC and installed everything except InCD.  It installed without problems. 

My software is Nero 6 SE. I guess the SE is for special edition for the Sony Dual Layer DVD Burner. Anyway I will get the Roxio software and install it in addition to the Nero SE. Thanks

When I install the Roxio Software on my system that has the Nero software should I install  Roxio with Direct CD. In other words go through a standard Roxio installation.

I'm having a bit of a problem after uninstalling Roxio (I prefer Nero and installed that). When I start up Windows and it reaches desktop, Windows Installer is looking for the .msi for Sonic Activation Module. I can't get rid of it. There are some Sonic files left in Shared Files and a couple of other places, but I don't know how to get rid of it all now.

I did not have any problem uninstalling Roxio during the Nero installation. I had InCd installed so I went to Remove and clicked on the Nero Icon to get a list of what was installed. Emerything was checked. So I unchecked everything except the two Nero InCD programs and removed them. That was the advice that was given to me from this site. I am no expert in this area. Hopefully someone elso will solve your problem

I entered regedit and searched for Sonic Activation and disabled the folder it was in and it seemed to stop the installer on start-up. Yay.
