Networking Vista & XP computers

After significant frustration due to the added security issues in VISTA, I found networking to XP machines very easy with 3rd party software........just took minutes!....Try it!.....effective and reliable, and does not slow down your pc.......:smileywink:

This software also networked my printer, which I understand can also be a problem in Vista.

Thanks for the link,

It is a sad day when you have to buy a second software to make the 1st software work.

Sorry, most don't have the time to get their PHD's in multi platform Windows Networking.  :smileywink:

I think you're going to see more of this in the future.  I remember watching the news a while back and the newsman was talking about how Microsoft "forces" people to buy Internet Explorer with Windows.  In the future I can see having to buy things like web browsers, media players, and other software we've come to expect with Windows.  I hope this doesn't happen though. :(

Like most others, I am not fond of workarounds, patches, and optional software to accomplish simple tasks in any Windows OS.  I have built and configured my own computers for years, and never had a networking problem until Vista.   My new Dell XPS 410 was ordered with Vista.

I was able to map the drives, and full permission to others was granted......from the Dell pc, everything worked ok, I just could not access the Dell drive from the XP machine, no matter what I did.....

Contrary to remarks made to me previously,  I had researched my efforts everywhere, and others could not find the problem either......I simply gave up and installed the trial version of Network Magic.

After a day of successful operation, I bought the software, 'cause it works!......:smileywink:

Not really true, you never asked for help on the Dell forum, you just made negative posts about Vista that were so bad the Mod's deleted them. You also sent me 2 negative Private messages that were deleted.

I see your original post that started this endeavor is deleted, and some others.

But here was my response to the now deleted post you made. Your post's original title was

"Vista Home Premium.........DON'T PURCHASE IT! "

"Bunko, just because you are having problems with your networking, don't go around the forum being mad, make a post and ask for help. Try the networking forum here http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=netwkint

Keep it up and you will be reported to the Mod's and all your posts will be deleted."

I am glad you found the solution to your problem, and were willing to share it with everyone here.

Hi Bill,

Just wanted to add that I have been using my new Dell all day without any problems whatsoever!

This is my first store bought proprietary computer ever, and so far I am very happy!

Lots of applications open, sending mail and listening to music at the same time.....incredible!  I have purposely loaded lots of TSR's and this pc can handle 'em!......probably at least 8 icons running in the tray......as good/better than any dual cpu computer I have had.  Core Duo is great!

Sure beats my first 386 w/Windows 3.1

Dell XPS 410 w/E6320 and 4Mb buffer...1-gig ram
