New Dell 1525 star / resume issues - help needed please

Hi there,

I have a new dell 1525 which works fine except for one problem ( well the microphone is far too quiet to be useful but thats no biggie), and I need some help please with a puzzling issue:

Problem:

whenever I turn on from cold, or resume from sleep / standby, the screen comes up witht he background but then within about 5 seconds it flickers off again and wherever I have put the cursor in that time, it always returns to dead centre of the screen. also If I have clicked the start menu it closes whilst the screen flickers off and then slowly comes back on.

It only does this at start or resume but it is really bugging me.

I have checked the power settings and also checked for any identified hardware or software failures on control panel but there is nothing listed.

Has anyone else had this problem??
