New hard drive, no OS...
The hard drive in my 3 year old XPS croaked this afternoon. It came with Windows 7 pre-installed, no discs, just directions to online resources. I've purchased a new hard drive, now the problem is getting a copy of the OS from Dell... how on earth do I do that?

You can Download a Windows 10 TH2 .iso:

It will accept your Windows 7 OEM key.

Hydraphile,
When you received your computer there was a program to create your Backup Windows Disk. You can click the link below to purchase a Windows recovery disc.
Windows Restore Disk
For me to better assist in troubleshooting, please click my DELL-Jesse L and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your Dell Order number.

Thanks for the reply. First, how on earth does one send a private message, and further, how am I to be sure I'm sending the information to an actual Dell representative? And second, would a photo of the desktop tower ID stickers suffice as proof? As I said it's a few years old, and any email regarding the purchase confirmation of the system has likely been lost to the bowels of subspace. I appreciate the help.

Highlight the name at the top of the post and the following will display. Dell employees should have DELL in front of their name and a DELL badge.
