New Inspiron "hanging" on Firefox install

Please Help!

 

I just got a new inspiron and it has repeatedly hung up while installing various programs, but none worse than Firefox.  I'm running XP home edition on an Inspiron 6000, Norton antivirus suite.

 

Whenever I install Firefox, it appears to install fine, but freezes on launch.  Most irritatingly, when I bring up Windows Task Manager, I can't force quit firefox, and it continues to run in the background as a process (though not as an Application). 

 

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm going crazy.
