new xp
hi, ive been trying to reinstall the windows xp, using the cd dell gave me with my pc a couple of years ago, and thats all fine, i re formated it too, to make it clean installion, but whe i try to download sp2, it goes wrong, and i cant install it, and then the whole thing screws up and i have to 'repair' windows.
it is evident that all the problems with my pc are to do with windows, and seeing as im stugling to even istall it im wondering if there is somethig wrong with the disk, or viruses and spyware has currupted it so much it cant even install right, is this possible?
im thinking screw it ill just go get a new copy of windows, with sp2 from the shop, or will i have the same problems?
also does reformattiing totall wipe all the stuff off the pc or is there a better way to do that?
thanks.

A clean reinstallation includes formatting which will remove all the contents of the C:\ partition before installing Windows. Are you following the procedures given here and in the included links? To avoid possible problems with SP2 you can install it immediately after you have installed the version of XP which you have on the CD.
It might be helpful if you posted the exact wording of any error messages you are receiving when you attempt to install SP2.
