I have a Dimension 8400 and I am receiving the same error message.  Any suggestions other than a system restore?

Some time has elapsed since I had this problem. As I recall, I think I found that my system was,

for whatever reason, not compatible with the Norton Firewall. I solved the problem by disabling

it and using Windows XP firewall.  No more problems.  Bob

Same problem with a Dimension 8400 with XP Media Center.  and Intel 537EP Modem.  I went to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, and removed the modem.  Rebooted. Then inserted Modem Drivers CD and reinstalled the modem driver.  This last part was a bit messy as I could not get any menu to come up on the Cd except the Modem Helper, which was already installed.  I brought up Modem Helper from my start menu (not the CD) and ran it.  Diagnostics showed everything was good, but the modem would not dial.  I rebooted with the CD in the drive, brought up modem helper again from the start menu, ran it.  Re-tried the modem, which this time worked. Some instructions for drivers available under Intel 537 Modem Users Guide on the support site.  No more blue screen so far.

I also have a Dimension 8400 with XP Media Center.  and Intel 537EP Modem.  I ran the Modem Helper and everything checked out OK.  I found a new modem driver on the Dell Dimension 8400 Support web site and installed it.  So far no blue screen.
