No cursor in Media Center

I have to navigate in Windows Media Center by guessing where the cursor might be. I can see its effect when I guess right, as the buttons brighten up and clicking operates the button OK. But why is the cursor totally invisible ? I have to get around with the arrow keys and stroking around to watch each button. No fun.

Check your settings in Control Panel, Mouse. Select Show cursor location by pressing Cntl key. That makes it easier to find the mouse. Also uncheck Hide pointer when typing. You might also select a more noticeable pointer for your mouse.

Good ideas but did not solve the invisible cursor problem. Even pressing the Crtl key does not cause the cursor to become visible. I tried installing a pen tablet and that didn't change anything either.
