No MP3 Encoder in Sonic 'Digital Media Plus'

Question

I paid for the upgraded Sonic 'Plus' software for my Dell 9300 laptop.  It works fine, but I was disappointed to find that it does not have an MP3 encoder to rip CDs to MP3.  I think this is a little lame for so-called 'upgraded' software.   If anyone knows that I'm wrong and it CAN do this, let me know.  Otherwise, be aware of this limitation if you are going to pay Dell for the upgrade.  I personally think your money would be better spent by taking the default and then buying your own authoring software.

Are you sure you got the upgraded version? There's another recent post in this forum where the Sonic upgrade was ordered/paid for but apparently not installed.

I have plan vanilla version of Sonic that Dell installs and option to convert CD to MP3 is listed on toolbar as an Audio Project (in my version Audio Project is indicated by a pair of musical notes). Except it isn't available in my free version (says "Upgrade to convert CD to MP3") so I suggest you look around on the toolbar.

wnorthrup,,,,read my post 'please help sonic question'.... the backup portion is grayed out also and wants you to upgrade....talked with sonic tech support about it and they said indeed i didnt get upgraded version.....should have been deluxe.....dell says that i got right version, but they have no idea what im talking about....my advice is to call custumer care and get your money back....do not send back the disk that came with your system....its the free one that comes with all systems so you can burn cd/dvd if you got the burners.......if im wrong about anything i have stated or found out then someone correct me, but these are the findings that i have found.....  That was not worth $79 upgrade.... RippinC

The disk I have says 'plus' on it.  This does not really jibe with anything on Sonic's site.  I have already asked Sonic about this and am waiting for a reply. My order listing as shown on the 'orders' part of the website says 'Digital Media Deluxe'.  It would appear that you guys are correct and Dell has given me the incorrect software. I'll see what I can do about it.

Thanks to the posts here, I got Dell to agree to send me the correct 'Deluxe' CDs.  I haven't received anything yet, but it is supposed to be shipped soon.  My order papers say I should have 'Deluxe'; what I got was plus, which is apparently the 'standard' version that comes on all 9300s.
