Hi

I have the same problem.

The upgrade seemed to go OK, all drivers installed except for the Creative labs software (couldn't find the activation Key) when anything that should have sound was running the volume meter on the volume control panel moved as if there was sound.  I checked all the obvious things, cables and volume but no change.  I decided to reinstall the sound drivers now I have nothing!  If I click on the volume icon in the system try it tells me that the audio service is not running, which will not run but doesn't say why.  Creative software and drivers will not run as they say there is no compatable device installed.  What a mess!!!!!

System is

Dimension 9200
Core 2 6400
2Gb ram
ATI 1300 thingy
Sigmatel audio

I have sound now, as with most things its simple. I had the speakers pluged into the wrong socket.  I had it in the black one for 5.1 sound systems like dolby pro logic.

Unfortunatly I had done a clean re-install before I sorted this one out.
