No Windows disk/activation key provided with Dell XPS13?

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

All new Dell systems come with a pre-installed utility called Dell Backup and Recovery using which our customers can create their own recovery media on an USB or DVD drive. Hence the disks are not sent with the systems. 

For Windows 8, the Product Key is "injected" onto the computer motherboard at the factory, and the installation and activation processes refer to the BIOS of the computer to verify authenticity and activate Windows. No Windows Product Key is otherwise provided or needed by the customer.

If you have not replaced or formatted the hard drive, it would still have the factory image of Windows 8 that the system was pre-installed with. Please follow the instructions from the link below to restore the computer back to the factory settings:

Incase, you have formatted the hard drive or replaced it and need the disks for re-installation, check the following link for placing a request for Dell Back up Disks:

When I did a clean install of Windows 10 I did delete the partitions to create "Unallocated" space. Does this mean I can't access the factory image of Windows that the system was pre-installed with?

Philip I am currently using the Windows Media Creation Tool to create a USB bootable flash drive with Windows 8 (like I did for Windows 10). Hoping that this will work and I will have an activated Windows 8.

If you have deleted the partition then the factory image that came pre-installed would not exist.
