Norton 2005, Inspiron 1100....

Sorry I didnt know where to post this and I really need help. I would call Norton or DELL but I am in JAPAN so it would be super expensive. And I can't seem to find a number for Norton or an e-mail. Anyway, I have Norton AntiVirus 2005. Lately when I try to do the LiveUpdate it comes up with "Can't Get Callback Object" or something like that. Well I downloaded the file they asked and it didnt work. I deleted Norton and then re-installed it and it still didn't work. I'm at my wits end. Can anyone help? Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong? Or what I can do? I read on another post something about the website www.cai.com and a file called InoculateIT. Well I went there and didn't see anything. It was supposed to give you free virus scans. Thanks.

Hi Frustrated 82,

Here is a free virus scanner at the Symantec site http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym

This is the support page, it can be customized by the region of the world.

You can try this:

1) Download the current version (2.6.14) of LiveUpdate from Symantec. Here is the link.

2) Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, and uninstall the current version of LiveUpdate

(normally step 3 will uninstall your old LiveUpdate prior to reinstalling itself, but it is best to uninstall it your self first - just in case there is a problem that requires you to do some manual clean-up before running step 3)

3) Run the lusetup.exe or lusetup-lt.exe program.

After the install completes - I forget if I reboot is needed. I would do one anyway - then after the desktop is loaded and disk activity is minimal I would run LiveUpdate.

Okay...So I deleted the LiveUpdate version I had and downloaded the new one and ran that lusetip-It and I am still getting the same message, "couldn't receive callback number". Grrr! I dont know what to do. I have a horrible wireless connection that I can't seem to fix either, that disconnects every 8 min. so that doesn't help with trying to do the virus scan through the website. Any more advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.
