Norton/Liveupdate

I have NIS 2004 and Windows 98. I recently had to download the newest version of Liveupdate. Since then I have now trouble with it. When I want to shut down my computer I get an error message saying that LUCALLBACKPROXY has caused an invalid page fault in module LUCALLBACKPROXY.EXE. Also whenever I want to click on the Liveupdate feature to actually update things manually it says that another session is running and only one can run at a time. But seemingly this is never stopping or something. I am fed up with Norton as they do not seem to offer much help except to want one to upgrade and that is not possible as Windows 98 is not acceptable for NIS 2006. Nor do they offer any soutions for this problem which seems to be happening frequently or at least I have read about it on a number or message boards......but have yet to find an answer. Anyone out there have a clue?? So far the general consenus is to can Norton.....I am getting closer to that option all the time!

Hi there, seems that you aren't the only one.  I went to google.com   then searched lucallbackproxy/error and some are having the same problem since a previous update.

I got rid of Norton and use AVG free.  If you decide to rid Norton, it's very involved, in a specific order,  and all traces have to be off your system (including the registry) before you select another anti-virus.  The site I referred to suggest the different symantec sites to get rid of Norton.

Have you tried to run the automatic check in Nortons' site?  I think you open norton, online help.

Good Luck, newbeee

I just found a couple articles on symantec site    2004010509301513  and

1999051911110813  and the tool is Symantec Automated Support Assistant that will test your Norton

Thanks for the tips. I also googled this problem and have been reading through the information. Response from Norton has been that one must upgrade their product and I was considering it as mine is NIS 2004. But now I have spoken with some friends who have 2005 and 2006 products and they are encountering the SAME problem with this LUCALLBACKPROXY error. We all seem to have about 8 instances of this running in our tasks. And the LIVEUPDATE never seems to stop running, although it is not actually doing anything that I can tell because today the new virus definitions should have come out and nothing has been updated. Norton has got a problem and all e-mails ignore the mention of this and simply say to upgrade or uninstall/reinstall. I am waiting in the wings and considering to go with something else. Like AVG or ??? From what I am reading it sounds like it is a bugger just to get all of the Norton stuff off of one's computer before going with another product. I am open to any advice out there.

Hi there, I've also read alot of problems related with yous at different forums.  Norton is not that difficult to get rid of if you print out the instruction, use the tools and take your time and a deep breath.  I've done it numerous times but it doesn't run well with my fussy system.

Did you try the "automated Support Assistant", it should tell you of any problems? Did you try the other remedies that were in the articles by Symantec?

If you upgrade, I think you still have to get rid of the old Norton.  Not sure which upgrade you can get with Win98.

Good luck, I wish I could help you more.  Maybe someone will jump in and help.

Thanks! Yes, I did use the Automated Support Assistant at Norton. Originally I was having freeze up problems and the Assistant detected that I needed a new version of the LIVEUPDATE feature. I did that and my system ran perfect for a few weeks. And also NO MORE freeze ups. It was last week on Wednesday that I decided to run LIVEUPDATE manually from within my NIS 2004. It ran okay and updated a number if items. That evening is when I began to have the LUCALLBACKPROXY error message upon shutting down the computer. Now if I run the Support Assistant, it does not detect this particular problem at all. I am (and many of my friends with the same problem) that Norton is becoming brutally aware of the problem and will put in a fix for it. But I am also planning to map out an entire day to possibly remove it and go with something else!
