Office XP SP3 print problems
Hello all,
I'm running an inspiron 2600 laptop. I recently installed a microsoft office XP service pack 3 update. Since then my print jobs seem to time out after a short period of time.
I switched to a USB printer, and also tried two other printers; none worked.
So, since you cant uninstall the update i removed office xp/outlook/publisher and rebooted.
I still cannot print, it seems like there have been much greater changes to the computer than to just those office programs.
(the spool service is running and the printers work elsewhere.)
If anyone has any links, or information on fixing this: I would be extremely appreciative.
I hope a new windows install isn't needed; that's about where i am option wise, so i've turned to you.
Thank you for your time,
acluguy
Post Script: I have updated the printer drivers for my canon bjc2100, my lexmark and my epson r300.

Are you getting any error when you plug in the printer to the computer?
If you don't have any other device that is using usb, you can try this:
- Go to control panel->Click System->Click Hardware Tab->Click Device manager
- Click the plus sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controller
- Look for the one that says something like "enchanced host controller"
- Right Click it and disable it
- Restart computer
Note: It is recommended that you do this if you dont have other usb device (check your mouse and keyboard)

However, the problem persists. I completely deleted office XP pro, reinstalled and then updated to Office SP2 pro; in the hopes it would override the update for Office SP3 pro.
Canon, Lexmark and Epson don’t seem to be much help, their faq’s/troubleshooters all seem to point back to installing drivers or making sure the printer is hooked up properly.
I don’t think this is the problem, since printing was fine until the updates a few days ago, and I’ve tried multiple printers and connection types.
I would absolutely love ANY suggestions, I just hope someone has had to deal with this and fixed it in the past, again thank you “im a blue screen” and anyone who takes the time to comment as they see fit.
Thank you,

Post Script: While this is a 5 year old laptop and we will buying another soon, it is my fathers and it would be difficult for him/me to get all of his work and network drives/printers/settings back after a clear install, so im really trying to pound this out without doing that.
To answer your question about an error upon plug in: No, there are no errors with either USB or printer port, both are running and show the printer as connected. As stated in first post, spooler is running and printer drivers are fresh print jobs fail/timeout after a couple minutes on all printers despite it showing everything i know to check as running and working. (test pages dont print either)
