Opening pdf files in Outlook Express

I recently received 2 e-mails with pdf attachments that I need.  Outlook Express, not my Norton Anti-Virus blocked the attachments with the following message:  OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments.  Can I retrieve these pdf files?  Or am I risking virus infection trying to do so?  I have a Dimension 2300 with Windows XP.

In OE, go to Tools->Options, click on the Security tab, then uncheck the box for "Do not allow attachments....", click Apply, then OK.

This question has been asked and answered here countless times.  While Symantec/Norton products have nothing to do with what is happening, they seem to have the most readily available explanation for it.  See the link below.

If you want to open attachments, you have to change the security option in Outlook Express.  And, since they are pdf files, you will need the Adobe Acrobat reader to display them.

Go to Tools/Options/Security in O.E. and there is an option to allow attachments to be opened or saved.  Uncheck that entry and you will be able to open the pdf files.  However, you will also be able to open potentially unsafe files and files that contain viruses.  Make sure you have an up to date Antivirus program and that it's always active and set to scan incoming e-mail.
