OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

Good day to all, I have some problem with my Dell Inspiron mini 1012. Don't know what to do anymore with this " Operating System not found" error on display screen when I boot up my netbook. I tried all these steps ( Reseat HDD, Load defaults at BIOS, try another working HDD to my netbook, and I tried also inserting my HDD to another laptop but it worked. Only my netbook have some problem.

Can you perform the full F12 preboot diagnostics, see here:

Hi shannoboy,

The operating system seems to be corrupted. Please contact a local technician who may help you in reinstalling the operating system.

Hi,

You will need to boot with the disk, and repair windows.

bootmgr 6 Fix: Missing Operating System Not Found error in Windows

From above, click Command prompt,

Now enter the following commands one after the other and hit Enter after each:

bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

Reboot your Windows system.

This should hopefully and have made your problem go away !

You can run those commands by booting to Windows installation media - USB flash drive or USB external DVD is fine - instead of Install Now, select Repair Your Computer.

Running the commands will fail if no Windows installation is found (no disks found).

If your disk is not detected in the BIOS, then one of two things is the problem:  the disk or the computer.

If the disk is bad, it may respond only to certain commands or connections, working on one computer but not the other.

If the disk is good (seems to be from your "test") and it is still not detected, your cable (if there is a cable) may be bad (or disconnected at either end), the drive port may be disabled in the BIOS, or the onboard controller (motherboard) is malfunctioning.  Make sure the drive port is enabled and that the disk is securely connected, and try clearing the CMOS using jumpers or battery to clear the settings.

There isn't always a cable, but it looks like there may be some type of an interposer/adapter.  If you have reseated both the connector and the drive, then you have done all you can do for checking the cable (connection).

If known-working drives don't work in here, then it could be that interposer/adapter, but it is more likely the controller on the motherboard  has gone bad.

Try removing the battery or clearing the CMOS using jumpers (if this system has jumpers for so doing).
