ScoobyDooby - If the time is important to you then by all means "go for it."  I think most agree that the time savings is real.  The only issue I have there is, how do I/you/anyone makes sure a service/process is not needed.  I don't trust most sites that purport to have the answers.  The real issue I think is that some posters have absolutely no idea how a modern multi-program/multi-processor operating system works.  There are limited ways to acquire the knowledge, read books, a lot of them, take some college courses, preferable at the graduate level, or work on a team that builds or maintains one or more.

If you were asking me,  I have absolutely no idea.  I send them about about fifty percent of the time.  Again its your call, I have no opinion or suggestion.

T4 - thanks for the links - but I can't find the answer as to whether I will still see the same error report if I disable Error Reporting.

As msgale says,  the information is very hard to find.

Basically I know three thngs 1 - I don't know much about XP Internals, 2 - The information is very hard to get and 3 - Many "experts" known even less.

Yea, I was hoping you would know.

As you suggested in previous posts - the consequences of many "tweaks" are not understood / known.

From further reading (though I am still not clear on this) it seems that the error log (or at least the same error log)  would not be generated,  so such a tweak would obviously be disadvantageous.

This issue however is not addressed by any of the websites advising this sort of a tweak.

I agree with you msgale.

And one of the suggestions on some of those websites is to disable error reporting,  either via the control panel (system -  advanced),  or via msconfig  (services tab: remove tick in Errror Reporting ).

I never accept to send the error report to microsoft - so I am thinking of disabling error reporting by one or both of the 2 methods.

I understand I wii no longer be offered the option of sending an error report to microsoft;  but could you tell me if  the same error report will still be generated for me to see?

Otherwise disabling error reporting would not be a good idea.

Not operating Windows XP but, Windows XP Operating System.  What I an looking for is information analgous to that found in "The Design of the UNIX OPerationg System" by Maurice J. Bach, or "UNIX Systems for Modern Architectures" by Curt Schimmel, or maybe even "UNIX Internals the New Frontier" by Uresh Vahalia, except from a 32 bit Windows OS perspective.

The funny thing is that whenever I argue with him he simply ignore everything I say and just states the same opinion again and again.
