Optiplex GX270 ICH5 AHCI-Driver for XP
Hi!
I am looking for a SATA / AHCI driver for WinXP.
I have:
- Dell Optiplex GX270
- Southbridge Intel ICH5 (1 SATA/150-Port)
- SATA-Harddisk Samsung
- WinXP Pro SP2
- ... to install the driver during WinXP-Setup with F6
- ... tried any kind of Driver you can download from Intel-Websites
... but the result is ever the same: the HD is running in IDE mode (UDMA-5) and no AHCI-driver is installed. The HD is SATA in the BIOS, but in win it is only IDE.
I need a driver working with ICH5 southbridge
Thanks for help!
Mike

You should change to AHCI in the BIOS.

hi theflash1932,
do you have a Optiplex gx270? If yes, please look into the BIOS an tell me where I can change to AHCI.
I have updated the BIOS to actually version A07, but i can't find an entry for AHCI.

I don't have one I can check. While the ability to change the SATA controller to a "compatibility" mode is pretty standard, not all systems have this setting. In Dell machines, it is usually found under Drives or Integrated Devices, and is usually called SATA Operation (or similar), with settings like AHCI/SATA/Native or ATA/IDE/Compatibility/Legacy. If it doesn't have it, then don't worry about changing the mode.
