partitions in xp

Question

I have xp pro and i have norton antiviris i can not use the go back program case it is seeing two hard drives one partion is windows and there is a smaller one that is 8mb but its not allicated to anything and when i boot up i have two choices to boot to they both say xp what can i do. I dont know to much about computers so if i could get step by step directions would be great. Thanks

The 8MB partition is probably just 8MB of unallocated space on your hard drive. Not a big deal. As far as the 2 boot options you can remove this by doing the following. Right Click on My Computer, Select Properties. Select the Advanced Tab and then click on the Settings button under the Startup and Recovery section. Remove the checkmarks beside the 'Time to display list of operating systems' and 'Time to display recovery options when needed'. Hopefully this helps.

your can Edit the boot.ini this file is a hiden and read only file.

make sure you delete the line that you don't need it.

You can edit the BOOT.INI file as described here or go to Start|Run, enter msconfig and click OK. On the BOOT.INI tab click the "Check all boot paths" button. One of the paths will be identified as not valid and you will be able to delete it at that time.
