Password protect my files

Help !

I have Dimension system with Windows XP professional operating system. This is the only system I am having and i am the administrator of this system. However, I have created seperate user accounts for my wife and children. They are just the users and only have limited rights on my system. However, what ever files i creates by logging as an administrator can be viewed, deleted or modified by my children who only have limited rights. Please tell me how can I protect my files from my children.

By the way, I love my Dell system. Its working with amazing speed. I am sure this must be a foolish question for many..

You can go to your documents folder, right click and go to properties. Next go to sharing and security and check the box that says 'make this folder private' that will make your files invisible to others logged into there accounts. You will only be able to view these files when logged into your own account.

guid069,   Thanks for the post. However, I have tried doing that, but the option 'Make it private' is disabled. Any new suggestions ?   Thanks

Did you use [C:\Documents and Settings\john doe] to check "make it private"? Was the box that you said was disabled, checked but greyed out? If so than those files are already set as private. Keep going up one folder layer at a time to see what "root" folder is checked "make it private". You can go into your other "limited" accounts and go to your folder "C:\Documents and Settings\john doe" and see if you can gain access to it.

Thank you again for your reply. The option "Make my folder private" is not checked. This option is grayed out as well. I have tried searching for C:\documents and setting\john deo, but could not locate this folder. Please help.

john doe would be whatever your user account name is. Open up my computer, go to the C:, then double click documents and settings. Your account name should be there along with any other account names, like your childrens names. Right click your account name and go to sharing. The box for making this folder private should be unchecked and not greyed out. If it is then I am at a loss. Hope this helps better than my previous posts.

Thanks you very much. It worked.

However. i am facing one more issue, i hope you can help me with.

The blue colored task bar, where you have "Start" button (which is green in color and "start" writtern in white with a flag. I am not sure which country's flag is it ) at the bottom of the monitor is not xp style. Its windows classic style. My XP looks like Windows 98 operating system. I have checked right clicking on desktop then going to Desktop themes where XP is selected. However at the setting tab its "Windows Classic " selected and there is not option for windows XP. Can you help me with this issue. I will wait for your post eagerly.

Start - Control Panal - Display Properties - Click on the Appearance tab. Under Windows and buttons you can select Windows XP style. Hope this helps!!
