Please re-install SOUND.DRV
When I have try to install some programs I get an error that reads"Please re-install the following module to your system21 directory: SOUND.DRV" I tried doing a re-install of XP but that didn't help. Usually this only happens with programs that sound isn't important to, like an electrical circuit drawing program and the hotsync program for my PDA. Nearly everything else works fine.
- OK then check www.google.com , Search for sound.drv

yes i've already re-installed the drivers, none of them are called "SOUND.DRV" and i get the same error messageJRosenfeld

Sound.drv appears on my system (XP SP1 Home) in C:\windows\system32. and in C:\Windows\System
Properties says version 3.10.0.103, in both cases. It is WOW SOUND Driver Module from Microsoft.
If you have a C:\I386 folder it is in there also (that's a backup); or it is in compressed form as Sound.dr_ in the I386 folder of the XP CD.
See if you have the file in those two folders (In windows Explorer, Tools, folder options, you need to have 'show hidden files and folders' checked, and 'hide protected system files' unchecked, also uncheck hide exrtensions for known file types).
If not, try putting copies into each of those folders. If you don't have the I386 folder on your PC, expand the file from the CD:
Click start, run, type cmd, click OK. In the command window type
expand X:\I386\sound.dr_ C:\Windows\System32\Sound.drv click enter. Note: replace X by the drive letter of your CD drive and note the space between _ and C as well as between expand and X
Repeat to expand to C:\Windows\System\sound.drv
Hopefully, just putting the files there will be enough to satisfy the request to install
If not, you could check the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WOW\boot
There should be a string value (red ab icon) with name sound.drv and data sound.drv; If not create it.
It also appears at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WOW
The value KnownDLLs has a data entry listing a whole series of files, separated by a space between each one; one of those is (should be) sound.drv.

Insert CD with Computer already started , if it shows OK , click OK then click "Next"
it should show your "System Model" & "Operating System" if not select from Drop Down Menu's.
Then click on Audio Sound Driver , Extract etc.
