pop under ads in ( I.E )

The Google toolbar works very well for me in controlling popups/popunders.

     If you don't want to try 3rd party programs, and can wait 2-3 more months, the next version of Internet Explorer (bundled with Windows XP Service Pack 2) will include pop-up blocking.  How well IE 6 SP2 will block sneaky pop-up, pop-under windows is still an open question.

       I'm guessing Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP will be released in May or June of this year.  The main theme of SP2 is security improvements.

I would not advise installing the beta version. It is for experts who test it out and report back to MS on any bugs they find. I think that you haveto register with MS as an approved beta tester.

Wait for the final release.

yes I do have SP1 that's what took 11 hours to download I got it the day it came out instead of waiting for the cd. I thought after that experience I would order the cd this time.

Sorry I didn't make my question clear I meant after it was released. The last time it took about 11 hours to download on dial up. I thought it might be easier to order the cd.

        If you currently use proper security features to protect your computer (anti-virus software, firewall, anti-spyware software) then it might be a good idea to wait a month or two after SP2 is released before trying to download and install it.  For four main reasons:

1)  Immediately after SP2 is released, tens of millions of people will be clogging Microsoft's servers trying to download it.  This could cause really long downloads, which might even corrupt the download process itself, resulting in a malfunctioning computer.

2)  Microsoft has been urging 3rd party vendors to update their software if necessary to be compatible with SP2.  However, inevitably, some programs won't be totally compatible until new patches or drivers are made available.  And this may not happen right away.  And some older programs may never work with SP2.

3)  Despite Microsoft's best efforts, the final release of SP2 will undoubtedly have glitches and bugs that need to be fixed.  This is done by security updates and patches released by Microsoft.  But these fixes won't be available until customers first tell Microsoft what the problems are.

4)  SP2 is a huge download, and will make a lot of changes to your computer.  I'd rather wait a couple of months after SP2 is released and let other people download and get familiar with it.  Then when I do install SP2, and run into some problems (which will undoubtedly happen), there will be people at this forum with some experience who can help.

I guess it will be a big file. I have broadband, but for dial up, yes, I'd get the CD; that way, if you ever have to reinstall your system, you'll have it handy. I take you do have SP1 already.

Thanks you guy's for the advise on sp2 from ms, but are other avenues of approach to solving this problem now! such as another vendor who just might have a more effective popunder blocker? do you think sombody at lava soft or spybot would possibily know if one other than sp2 from ms is available ? do you think Tom Coyote might have some ideas as to solving this very annoying problem, again thanks for the excellent advise.
