Power Options Keep Resetting Back To Default
Hi Everyone,
I have a latitide D531 running Windows XP Pro 32bit.
I have a problem where the power options keep resetting themselves back to default. If I change the power scheme so that when on batteries it doesn't go into standby for 1hr, it will apply, but when I then go back in, it resets itself back to default.
I have created a new power scheme and this doesn't change anything. I am not using the Dell Management software. This has never been installed as I have formatted and wiped the machine to reinstall the OS from scratch recently.
Anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks in advance
Scott

Copy/paste the exact, complete text, including blank lines into an empty blank Notepad file. Save the file on your desktop as save.reg
Log off the net and close all open windows and apps that may be running. Double-click on save.reg and accept the offer to modify the registry. Reboot when it's done and then set the power settings the way you want them. Reboot again and check that they've still correct.

Try running a windows system file check:
start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click ok
Insert XP CD and reboot when it's done.

I'm stumped. Maybe you should post this on the Notebook>Power Management Forum, here:

Good luck!
