Precision T3600 Windows 10 upgrade issues

Greetings all.

I am having an issue with upgrading my Win7 T3600 workstation to windows 10.  I have looked through numerous posts on possible issues and tried different methods of the upgrade process.

My research has made me conclude that the T3600 with the embedded Intel raid controller has a problem in the pre-boot environment. I keep getting an error after the windows 10 upgrade does it's first re-boot.  error code 0xC1900101-0x20017.

I have seen posts on hidden drives and devices or old drivers.  None of these issues seam to apply to my situation.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Okay, so I just say this post.

When I checked my BIOS settings i verified that I have the latest version (a14), but the boot mode was set to legacy BIOS.  Do I need to change this to UEFI in order to get windows 10 to install?

I had the same reboot problem when upgrading. I had to disconnect my hard drive from the onboard SAS controller and connect it to the SATA cable that was connected to my DVD drive. Apparently the Windows 10 installer cannot provide an option for the user to load a drive for the storage controller.

Anyway after the reboot the install finished, I reconnected by drive to the SAS controller and was able to load the driver upon the next reboot. Very cumbersome and I hope they fix this problem soon.

Thanks for the info.     Now my only problem is I have three T3600's that are setup with RAID using the SAS controller.  I'm willing to bet the only way I will be able to get them to upgrade is to mirror the Raid volume to a single disk, preform the upgrade then if I want to have the RAID volume back I will have to use a disk imaging program to clone the drive back to the Raid volume.  Dell had to make this difficult didn't they. :emotion-12:

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I was able to install windows 10 on my Precision T3600, the bad news is that because of the controller being on the motherboard and needing a driver to be recognized this system is not able to be upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I spent countless hours with Microsoft and Dell trying to resolve this and have finally come to that conclusion. I have requested for technical support to elevated this to their level 2 department to come up with a resolution to upgrade. The frustrating thing about this was neither Dell or Microsoft was willing to take ownership of this situation and as a result I had to buy Windows 10 and do a clean installation.

I tried the same procedure and I was able to get Windows 10 installed using the SATA port.  However, now if I try to boot using the SAS port I get the following error:

:( Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.  We'll restart for you.

If you's like to know more, you can search online later for this error: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

How were you able to install the driver and where did you get it from?

As pointed out before, the main problem is that Windows 10 installation does not provide the required drivers, consequently, bios does not see the installed windows. I found an alternative solution. I installed windows on a drive first, then I installed Linux (manjaro) on the same drive. The grub bootloader in Linux picked the windows installation entry and the problem was solved.
