problem restoring my laptop back to factory settings
hi
i was looking to put my laptop back to factory settings i got to the menu where the options that i have available i tried using system image recovery but never worked
start up repair
system restore
system image recovery
windows memory diagnostic
command prompt
dell backup and recovery manager
i looked at videos on you tube and saw that the option that people use is dell data safe restore and emergency backup but i don't see that option

I have moved this to the Microsoft OS Forum as its not a Desktop and is a software issue.
You have not provided the model and version of Windows. I assume you have Windows 7 64 Bit.
Dell DataSafe and Emergency Restore is obsolete and has been superseded by Dell Backup and Recovery.
You have not stated whether you are trying to recovery via the internal partition or via a Recovery USB?I am going to assume its via the internal partition and that you can boot to your existing Windows.
Before proceeding to restore your system to factory settings be sure to install the latest version of Dell Backup and Recovery which has multiple fixes over previous versions. Go to computer > uninstall or change a program and uninstall Dell Backup and Recovery before installing the latest version:
http://www.dellbackupandrecovery.com/en-us/Index2.html
Create a new Recovery USB after installing the latest version 1.7.1.2 as the Recovery USB will be more versatile than any Recovery USB made with earlier versions (it for instance will allow installation on a smaller hard drive such as a SSD). See here:
To restore to factory settings via the internal partition see my video here:
To restore via the Recovery USB see here:

In that case my assumptions were correct. Uninstall Dell Backup and Recovery. Then install the latest version. Create the Recovery USB (just in case) and then restore using the internal partition as mentioned above.

It should be in Start > All Programs > Dell > Dell Backup and Recovery.
If not open Windows explorer and go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Dell Backup and Recovery.
You can use the OS discs and install manually and I have guides to do so, however if you were satisfied with the performance of your factory settings using Dell Backup and Recovery should be faster and easier.
