Problem upgrading to Vista Business

When I insert the Vista Business upgrade DVD into the drive, it doesn't run, but opens a window displaying a readme.txt file. The file says "This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."

I can't see any other files on the DVD.

What's up with that?

Hello :smileyhappy:

You have to run an Upgrade Setup from within the OS you are upgrading from

True, but in this case, when looking at the dvd from within Win XP, the only file seen is a readme.txt file, there is nothing else there, no way to run anything.

However, since posting, I called MS for help and they said to disable one of my two dvd/rw drives. I did this and now my pc recognizes the dvd and I can run the setup file. Very weird, but "whatever"..it now works. Now for the real news...

I ran the Vista Business upgrade on top of XP. Big mistake. It got all the way to the end and choked. I managed to get it started in Vista's "safe mode" and as the "loaded file: bla, bla, bla"'s ran by I saw an entry for my anti-virus. I DID unload it before attempting the upgrade, but I didn't uninstall it. It is NOT compatable with VISTA.

Long story short, I rolled back to XP successfully (phew!), uninstalled the AV, then followed the 5 step "clean install" instructions for Vista posted elsewhere here. I am now typing this message from within Vista Business :-)

I'm running on the hardware drivers loaded from the Vista DVD, it has recognized all my hardware, Aero looks great, sound card works, etc.

Good job, Bill G.!

Boot from the DVD drive and do your upgrade from there.
