problem with forced multiboot under Win2k. Pulling my hair out - HELP!

I have a Dell (Duh!) Optiplex GX240 that I just reinstalled Win2K using the supplied system reinstallation CD.  All of a sudden, there's a new step in the boot sequence.  Right in the middle, but before the "booting to win2k" message I get an input screen that asks me to choose between "Windows 2000 Professional" and "Windows 2000 Professional".  Two identical choices except if the second one is selected the boot fails.  The first one works just fine.
 
I tried reinstalling twice, being carefull about my selectins for the installation and the same result happens each time.
 
I've installed win 2k to other (older) optiplexes and had no such problems.
 
I'm trying to figure out two things.  First, why did this happen, and second is how to make it go away so the boot sequence is shorter.  I've looked at the bios and setup screens, poked around a bit in the control panels and some web searches to try to find an answer.  So far I have had zero success.

After a little workout, a fresh mind and perspective.   I found some info about multiple OSes and dual boot systems.  I recall that when I reformatted the drive, there was a small (31MB) partition that I wiped out.  Was the system reinstall disk designed with a script that created some sort of dual boot system for troubleshooting?

Well, I could tell you how to do it in Windows XP with msconfig but that's not what you're running.
 
After a few searches I found this on the MS website:  

To make your Windows starts Directly without prompting for Boot screen, do the following steps:

Control Panel> System and Maintenance> System > Advanced System Settings (On left tab), then select Advanced from the tab and click Settings in Startup and Recovery ... uncheck Time to display list of Operating systems then select Ok.

 

You'll still have the two boot options but there just will not be a time delay to let you select which one - it will default right to the first one.  If you want to completely delete the second boot option go into the boot.ini file and remove it.

RoadiJeff,  Thanks for the help.  I discovered setting the time display to zero but I didn't know about editing the boot.ini file and that is the solution that really fit my needs.
