Problems with RAID drivers in Vista upgade

Question

Hi I have a XPS Gen 4 and am trying to do a clean Vista install. I believe I have the Intel 82801FR SATA RAID setup (AKA ICH6R) and have managed to download some kind of driver from Intel (iata70_enu.exe) because the Vista setup recognises it correctly. However when I choose next I get the message 'the...device driver could not be installed. Contact your vendor for an updated driver'. Any thoughts anyone? Dead PC here smileysad: Cheers Bill

First you need to know if you have the 925x  or the 925xe chipset. Download the Intel Matrix Storage Technology driver from here  http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-012398.htm

My install of Vista 32\64 bit with raid sata intel software.
I think you have the Intel 925X {ICH6} by what Dell & Intel says not R so

you have to download this {iata621.enu.exe}
for intel 82801-fr/fbm sata raid controller version 6.2.1.1002
build 1\4\2007

this is the intel raid matrix storage console 6.2.1. to

install inside Vista 32\64 bit.
And you need to download this{F6FLPY-32,ZIP}to make the floppy F6 floppy

install before you install Vista 32 bit.

You and I have the same chip set but i use the 64 bit version of the raid

installer you would use the 32 bit version if you are using 32 bit not 64

bit Vista.
I think you are trying to install the drivers for the [ICH6R] that is for

the newer chipset with software support for sata raid 5\10 for desktop

platform and sata raid 0/1 for mobile platform and it will not work.
If you do not have it running by now try the above.
I tried the iata70_enu.exe a little while back with the same results it does not work.

You can download the drivers from www.intel.com look under chip set and chip set software

in the download center.

Edit in device manager it shows Intel 925X-XE look under system devices you will see it.

Thanks for the advice everyone but none of it worked. In the end I dsiabled RAID in the BIOS (Combination setting in case anyone else landed here). Then Vista complained that my drive wasn't bootable but that was because I hadn't reboted after setting the raid setup. After doing this I now have 2 separate drives. No RAID but working Vista.
