Problems with Vista Shutdown

Question

Has anyone else had a problem with Vista when you go to shut down?  Mine doesnt do it all the time, but every once in a while it will get stuck on the shutting down screen and wont turn off unless you hold the power button down.  Hasnt become a problem yet, but just wanted to see if anyone else was getting this as well

It might be due to a program or device driver interfering with Windows power settings. You can use Performance Information and Tools to try to detect these programs or device drivers.

To check for performance issues
1. Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Performance Information and Tools.

2. Click Advanced tools.

3. Under Performance issues, click any issues that are listed.

4. Read the information in the dialog box that appears to learn which programs or drivers are causing problems.

Vista has a well hidden utility for this. Type Shutdown in the Start box to access the Shutdown Troubleshooter. It will let you disable the culprit. Usually it's a bad software or non vista driver. Mine was Creative Helper and a Creative utility. After disabling both, shutdown was quick.

i have this shutdown problem. i have tracked it down to my new webcam. is my only solution to by a different one?

i have the latest driver. their is a problem logitech are aware of though. they have suggested a couple of temporary workarounds. i guess, untill they release a new driver.   thanks.

There are lots of us in that position with various drivers. :smileysad:   My Dell printer is still waiting for a Vista driver.  It is one of the few which does not have one yet.   I can`t get a driver for the video card on my other machine. This is a worse problem as I have blue lines onscreen sometimes.  I`m afraid all we can do is be patient and keep checking the manufacturers site
