Yes, be careful with some of those. I once botched up my registry bigtime by not knowing what I was deleting when I used RegClean Supreme. (I think that's the correct spelling)
Anyways, I've been using CCleaner now for 3 years and have never experienced any problem. I mostly use it as tomron has stated; a good cleanup of temp files and leftover remnant stuff.... And it does a pretty good job at it too...
Some vendors practice questionable marketing tactics.Their product, whether it be a antivirus, registry cleaner, etc, find alleged issues and for a fee will resolve said issues, :smileywink:
I use ccleaner slim build which has no yahoo tool bar and is english only.
Eh.... I guess it's part psychological..... Some people don't mind wallowing in trash so they never clean the interior of their car. Other people vacuum it and keep it clean. To each his own, I guess..... Is one way better than the other ? I have no documented proof of that neither...
I certainly can't tell someone who cleans his car that it is stupid.... anymore than somebody can tell me I'm stupid for cleaning it... Whatever floats yer' boat, I guess.....:smileyindifferent::smileyindifferent::smileyindifferent:
Quite apart from the lack of any need for, lack of demonstrable benefits, and the risks inherent in using general registry cleaning utilities, I would note that the developer of
Registry Cure (AKA
Regcure, from
Paretologic) has a
particularly shady reputation for marketing tactics such as described by the OP (multiple "problems" detected by a free scan, as a goad to purchase).
Obsolete registry entries occupy a trivial amount of space, and rarely need fixing.
I was responding to the OP's concern about
Registry Cure, and similar
wholescale registry cleaners. As I'm sure you are aware, these boards are littered with posts about problems arising from their use.
In fact I'm in agreement with all who responded. I too use and recommend CCleaner (which I do not consider in the same category as RegCure) for general cleaning up of unnecessary tracks, histories, temp files, traces, etc: basically as a better utility than Windows Disk Cleanup.
