Registry Key error

I have windows xp sp1 and now have several problems.
1.  I downloaded a program called Quicktime Alternative. When I try to install it I get this, "Error creating Registry Key: HKEY_Classes_Root\movfile\DefaultIcon
RegistryCreateKeyEx failed; code 5 Access is denied.
2. When I click on My Computer\Control Panel my screen goes blank then the icons return never allowing me to open the Control Panel. I have done Panda and House call scans as well as anti virus scan, spybot, adaware scans but come up with nothing. I turned System Restore off and I think this deletes all the info in there too. The Control Panel opened for me a couple of times. I turned system Restore back on. I don't know if having Sustem restore on or off makes any difference as to whether I can open the Control Panel.
3.  This may sound silly, but I was using iTunes and liked it. Then one day as usual I clicked to open it and it says "iTunes has encountered an error and must close." I get no response from Apple. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Quicktime and iTunes numerous times but I still receive the same error.

Can you help me? lol I know ya can. You guys are the greatest!
