Reinstalled XP Home today got a black screen HELP
I am giving my old computer to a friend so I formatted the hard drive and started reinstalling windows XP home. It is a Dimension 8200. It went fine at first. I got as far as naming the computer. I momentarily left the room. When I returned the monitor had gone completely black. I doesn't respond to anything I do. The fans are running and the CD drawers open but no monitor. HELP Thanks, Bill

I wish I could. It doesn't respond to the CD. or anything else. It acts like its in power saving mode or sleep.

Hi,
I got error codes on the little lites on the back of the tower too. After much trial and error I removed the graphics card and all the little lites are green when I boot the computer without the card.. I wonder if it's a bad graphics card? Could it be the drivers for the card? I want to give this computer to a friend that needs one, I got a new Mac 1 and half years ago. Any help on this would be great, I'm at a loss. I've been working on it on and off, at least 15 hours, so far. Uggg Can I somehow install the driver disk without the monitor? Can't see to go through the prompts. Thanks, Bill

Assuming the video card is still working, Windows should load a generic VGA driver whch should work with virtually any video card.
Can you test this monitor on a different PC or a different monitor on this PC to rule out the monitor? Did you check the monitor cable at both ends to make sure it's connected correctly?
If the monitor is ok, then you may need to replace the video card.

I have a identical v-card coming from Ebay. I got it for 10 bucks including shipping. If that doen't fix the problem it's trash.

It was the video card. Working fine now. The XP reinstall was a success too. Whoopee!!!!!
