Reinstalling Windows Vista on a Studio 1737

Ok well first im on a mobile device and two I know where to get them on this site. Let me elaborate my question. I ment where do I download them to (like a usb drive for example) and how do I install them on a hard drive that is blank. Meaning no OS. I have to have the drivers first before I can reinstall windows

I recently had to replace my hard drive in my Studio 1737 due to a corrupt hard drive issue. After installing the new drive I put in my vista reinstallation disc. I forgot that with a new hard drive means no drivers. Im wondering how I can get all of the drivers for my studio and how do I install them so I can reinstall vista.

Step 4 and 5 mentions downloading the service packs and drivers to a USB stick and saving them in the correct installation order.

Step 9 and 10 mention driver installation and Step 12 checks in the device manager.

Okay guys, I still dont think you understand my issue. My hard drive is empty. Completly blank. I have to have the drivers before I can install windows. Meaning there is absolutely no OS on the drive. I have the reinstallation disc. How can I install the drivers on the drives without an OS?

Ok again. I only have the reinstallation disc. I cant load it without the mass storage driver. So again this just keeps going in circles. I cant install the OS without the drivers

You can't do anything with drivers until the OS is installed.  You must first install the OS, then you can install the drivers.  You can transfer these drivers from USB, CD, etc. - or even from the network if the OS has native drivers for your network adapter.  System Software and Chipset first, then the other drivers.

Then since Dell does not have a specific pre-OS driver for the chipset on the Support site, and Intel apparently does not supply specific drivers for this chipset, try the full chipset driver from Dell:

Download and run the file to extract the contents, then copy everything from C:dell\drivers\R192750 to a USB flash drive and put it in the system. When you get to that screen, click on the Load Drivers link, then browse to the Vista folder on your flash drive.

The drive is recognized in the BIOS Setup (F2), right?

Not every system and OS need mass storage drivers - OS's have "native" drivers for several chipsets.  Have you tried booting to the Vista installation DVD?  If not, then try it.  If so, does it say no drive can be found on the screen where you would normally select the location to install to?  There are no SATA/F6 drivers listed for this model, so you probably don't need them for Vista.

It's ok, I can understand your frustration, but since mass-storage drivers were not mentioned earlier, all our answers were assuming all other drivers :)

You say it says "no driver found" ... now this is important:  Which does it say?

"Install Error: Required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing"  You would see this before getting to the screen that asks where you want to install Windows.  If this is the case, 99% of the time, it means the DVD is bad.

"No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation."  You would see this on the screen were you would select where to install Windows and the drive/partition box would be empty.  If this is the case, then you probably need the chipset driver for the SATA controller.

Or are you seeing another message?  If so, what is the exact wording and where do you see it - at what point in the process?
