Reinstalling/formating windows xp on Dimension 2400

After receiving system updates from windows my Dimension 2400 was no longer able to boot, not even in safe mode. It almost finishes loading then I get a black screen saying that it was unable to boot. I am guessing that I have to restore it to its factory settings but am completely unsure as to how, I was not given a system restore disc upon purchase, and I am also unsure of how to go about obtaining one via making, ordering, or purchasing one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IF you can avoid it and can borrow a disk you might be able to restore the system. There are a couple of things you can do before you go the reinstall route. Since the system will boot you can try going into safe mode and select a system restore point. At the big Dell splash screen tap the F8 key, Select safe mode if it boots into safe mode follow the steps HERE.

as for getting a set of disk go HERE

Well i can not boot into safe mode, it does not work it does the same thing as for regular, or previously used settings. And for some reason my f8 key does not go into an advanced boot mode, but my f12 key brings up a boot menu to boot from cd drive, or the C: drive.
