How about this?

Thanks for that but I have used that and it's removed. However, in my security centre Nortons Internet Security is still listed in the firewall and malware setup and I can't shut it off. I can't turn on windows firewall or I get a statement saying 2 firewalls turned on might conflict. Also, Malware settings are showing out of date. Nortons is listed here as well.

I don't understand nortons is still here if is been removed. I think it is having an affect on my internet connection as well. What else can be done.

Biomed,

If you have done the uninstall to no avail, and if it were my machine, I would delete the entire Norton folder which should be located in the folder:
C:\Program Files

Thanks Fred, however I have done that also. Is it the end of the road for the solution to this problem?  Will it linger until Microsoft's  "service patch 12" becomes available?

I have to say I am not very happy with Vista. There is too much security in which when you want to shut it off to setup another, I don't know where to go.

I need to know how to get Norton's out of my security centre. It's uninstalled and the folder is deleted from program files. What next?  HELP ME!!!

Biomed,

Next step is to open System Configuration
* Start * Administrative Tools * System Configuration
OR ELSE Start * Enter MSCONFIG in Start Search Window, Start MSCONFIG

Examine Services & Startup for anything related to Norton, and uncheck.

Then reboot

If Norton is STILL running, then right click taskbar * Task Manager.
Here you will see every process running. Carefully examine Applications, Processes, Services. When you find Norton, right click on the Norton Task to see PROPERTIES, where you will find the location of the executable file. Then delete that file.

Aside - It is clear that Norton is located in 2 or more folders and you need to find & delete those folders. So enter NORTON in the Start Search Window to see what you find.

Good luck, one of the above WILL find & fix your problem.
BTW -
1) have you called Norton Tech Support?
2) have you done the Control Panel * Programs Uninstall? There could be more than one Norton in there. Go back & carefully review installed programs

BioMed,

One last thing: After you have done everything in my previous message, and you still have the problem, follow the procedure at the bottom of this link:
http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=671245

Per the above procedure, Regedit can be started from Start * Start Search.

Due diligence is required here... backup your system before making any changes & review system recovery procedures. ( I have printed system recovery to a notebook where I also have the BIOS settings & other critical settings such as Mail & IE settings ) Review booting with the backup registry.
BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL REMOVING NORTON USING REGEDIT. I have used regedit without problems many times and it should be clear & logical what you are deleting.

PS) Unchecking something in MSCONFIG is the same as removing it using RegEdit. All the executable programs listed in the registry also show up in MSCONFIG. The registry starts them and MSCONFIG disables them. It should be clear that Norton is still in your registry, or else it wouldn't be starting.

PSS) Which in life is the biggest problem... your women, your house, your car or your children. Is it time to go back to cave dwelling ;-- ) ) Cheer up, things could be worse. So you cheered up and sure enough, things got worse.

Thanks Again Fred - Yes, I have been in touch with Norton's tech support and we have already done the regedit process. After rebooting it was still there.

I have also gone through to control panel and made sure it's uninstalled. Norton's is not listed there anymore.

I will follow the steps you have provided and see what happens.

Thanks again

You can turn your demo version of NIS into the full one by going to the store , buying the boxed version of the one you have on your PC and use the keycode for it.

Biomed,

One additional thought... Since you are going to install your own "Full Version" of Norton anyway, why not just go ahead and install it. An install of any program starts by removing all traces of the old program, and/or replacing all existing files + folders. Your problem could well be fully resolved by the new installation.
