Msoeres.dll is associated with Outlook Express and should be located in C:\Program Files\Outlook Express. It must also be the correct version to match your installation of OE. The easiest way to replace it is to go to Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Outlook Express. Then go into Add/Remove Programs, select Microsoft Internet Explorer X and Internet Tools, select "Add a component" from the context menu that appears when you click the Add/Remove button and reinstall Outlook Express from there.
Thanks Denny, one question though. If I uninstall OE, will I loose everything in my inbox? I have a number of items there I would like to save. I had considered just burning the items to disc but have 2 problems. First, with the missing dll, I can't even open OE or the inbox. Second, I'm also having trouble with my burner but that is a sep. problem I'm working on. Any thoughts?
No, uninstalling/reinstalling OE will not disturb your email that is already on the hard disk. However, if you wish to insure that it is safe, you can store it on CD and import it in the event an unexpected problem should arise. The procedure for doing this is
here. Since all the copying is done from within Windows Explorer and not OE, your inability to open OE doesn't cause a problem.
Thanks Denny. I found the inbox file at: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\I...\Outlook Express. All the mail files are iexplore associated ( the page with the 'e' symbol and the folded over upper right corner). But, they will not open. I had a bit of trouble with this before and for some reason, clicking on it does nothing. I guess I'll have to work on that. I really appreciate your help. I'll be out of town for work Wed and part of Thurs but I'll try to run the solution again on Thurs. Thanks again.
*.dbx files cannot be opened. After they have been imported into OE as folders they can be opened from within OE. As long as your installation of OE is not working those files will be unaccessible. I'll be away from the forum for several days myself. With luck, this will all be sorted out by the time I return.
