restoring factory image on xps 16

Question

hei everyone, i'm kinda new here so i'm not sure if i'm in the right section.

i got my xps 16 last week. somehow i managed to mess the up the windows password and could not log on to windows. i tried to restore factory settings from the boot menu, but it still required the password.

so i reinstalled the windows using the recovery disk that came with the laptop. i used the driver cd to restore as much as i could.

then i tried to use the PCrestore tool on the recovery partition. but it kept saying 'access to \tools\dp.sc was denied'.

its working fine for now, but i wish i had the factory settings to work with (dock, proper drivers,etc)

can anyone help me out here?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Did you try the factory image using the following information?

The Dell™ Factory Image Restore tool replaces PC Restore. Access it from the boot menu Once on the next page choose "Repair Your Computer" option.

This utility formats the operating system hard drive partition prior to restoring the factory image. This means data on that partition is deleted and cannot be recovered.

the option was there when i first tried to restore the settings. but it asked for the windows password (which i messed up in the first place).

after reinstalling windows, that option no longer existed. what can i do now?
