Safely Remove Hardware

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it!!!  I recently received my E1505 w/Vista on it (whatever the free upgrade version is).  On my work PC (also a Dell, however w/XP) there is a "SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE" icon on the bottom right toolbar.  I have always been taught to use this feature when unplugging an external hardware device, i.e. USB.  I cannot locate on my new computer (E1505 w/Vista) where to find this feature so I can add it to my toolbar.  Please help!!!

Mary,

I like to have the icon.  I never pull anything out without safely removing it.  Its getting more annoying since I can't locate the shortcut for the icon.

By the way, what is the notification area & where is that located?  I'm very new w/Vista.

You don't really need it, but if you plug a camera or other peripheral into a usb port, it should appear in the notification area. If you don't have a external drive or camera, it disappears.

Hello all!  I just went through some Vista training.  I'm very good w/computers.  However, I think Vista is very different, so far in a good way.  I just need to get used to it.  But what OS is perfect.  I also searched their Help Forum & found these articles (very helpful):

So with these, I have potentailly found my solution if they work when I get home tonight.
