Sendin Fax Using Classic Phone Tools (BVRP)

Hi there,

I cannot send a fax using my existing Classical Phone Tools (BVRP).

When I open the BVRP program, I am presented with a small (Classical Phone Tools) Interface, with Menu, Inbox, Phone, Fax and Voice mail Options and Status [RDY in green] and a little window indicating "Receive mode is Voice/Fax".

When I click on the "Send Fax" button, I get another screen for entering the Recipient's Name, Fax number, Message text and Attached Document. All seems to be in good working order, but when I click on the "Send" button, after couple second or so I get "Transmission(s)cancelled" message in the BRVP screen.

When I check the "Fax Outbox", I can view the name of the recipient of the fax and nothing is showing in the "Finished Transmission or Failed Transmission options.

Just to let you know that my PC has inbuilt Modem BCM V.92 56K Voicemodem which is attached to COM3 and I have no problem sending and receiving Mail.

I would like to have the use of my Classical Phone Tools for sending fax and I was wondering, if any of you good people out there can help/advise me to resolve this.

I hope I have provided you clear enough information for helping me.

Regards

Persian Cat

My fax modem problems were fixed when I updated the modem drivers.  Go to the Dell Drivers and Downloads page and see if there's an update for yours.

Hi RoadiJeff,

Many thanks for your reply.

I am using Microsoft Windows XP – Home Edition Version 2002 and as I mentioned in my previous Thread, that my PC has inbuilt Modem BCM V.92 56K Voicemodem which is attached to COM3 and I have no problem sending and receiving Mail.

I could not see an update to my modem type in the “Drivers and Download” page, but I have downloaded a R98291.EXE file and currently sitting on my Desktop.  I have not installed this file, as I am a bit unsure.

Just want to check this with you. If I update/upgrade my existing inbuilt Modem BCM V.92 56K Voicemodem with the Conexant 56K V.9x DFVc Modem (windows XP) which I got it form “Drivers and Download” page as you recommended, would I be overriding my existing Modem?  If so would this update/upgrade cause problem when sending and receiving mail?

As you now have a better picture of my Operating System and Modem, Would you please let me know, if it is safe to go head with the installation of R98291.EXE file?

Once again many thanks for your time.

Regards,

If you found the R98291.EXE file through the Drivers & Downloads link by submitting either your service tag or product model (you never mentioned what model Dell PC you have) you should be okay, as that is the modem that it came with.  It should list on the download page the date of the new driver and you can compare that with the date of the driver you are currently using.  After upgrading if you don't like the results you can always use the Windows XP option in the Device Manager to Rollback Driver to the previous version you were using.

Before I upgraded my US Robotics fax modem driver I could log on the Internet via dial-up with no problems but it would hang when trying to send a fax. The update fixed the fax part and I could still use the dial-up the same as before.

Hi RoadiJefff,

My Dell PC is “Dimension” model with Windows- XP Operating System with inbuilt BCM V.92 56K Voicemodem.  The “Classic Phone Tools” in question was already installed when I purchased this PC (as part of the deal).  As you said, I entered my service tag and Operating System; it came up with R98291.EXE file.

Having read your latest response, I revisited the “Drivers & Downloads” and got the following information together with the download and install instruction:

Conexant 56K V.9x DFVc Modem

Diagnostics Utility

Release Title:         Communications: Conexant 56K V.9x DFVc Modem, Diagnostics Utility, Windows   2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.2.40, A05

Release Date:              10/12/2005

Description:

Modem Helper Diagnostics tool for Conexant D850 DFVc PCI Modem

File Name:                   R98291.EXE

File Size:                      3 MB

Download Time (56K):8.2 min

File Format:                 Hard-Drive

I could not see a “Driver Date” to compare with my existing Driver Date. On this note, where do I go to get the Driver date on my PC and also how do I access the “Device Manager” so that I can “Roleback Driver” if Conexant 56K V.9x update is not the right one?

Many thanks for your time.

There are many models of Dell Dimension PCs on the Downloads & Drivers page (Dimension 1100, Dimension 4100, etc.) - I don't know which specific one you have.  As long as you entered your service tag it should take you to the correct one you need. Your modem driver update will be listed under Communication Drivers. Select your modem from the list if there's more than one model and download and install it if it is newer than what you're using. There should be a release date somewhere on that page that will show you if it is a newer version than what you have installed.

To see what driver you are currently using or to use the Rollback Driver feature right click on the My Computer icon in your Windows desktop and go to Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Modems. You should see your modem in that subgroup.  Double click on it and then select the Driver tab.  On that page you will see the date of the driver you're using as well as the Rollback Driver option.

Hi RoadiJeff,

Thanks again for this.

As mentioned in my last thread, the model is “Dimension” with Windows XP Operating System and has inbuilt Voicemodem (BCM V.92 56K).

Please note, when I enter my “Service Tag” or “Product Model (either) in the Drivers & Downloads page, it comes up with 1100/B110 and the file I am presented with is R98291.EXE.  Every time I enter my Service Tag or Product Model, it comes up with 1100/B110 with the Release Title (Communications: Conexant 56K V.9x) and the file name is R98291.EXE

I don not know what Model of XP you are using, but on my Model (Dimension), I drill down My Computer àProperties àHardwareàDevice ManageràModems, but if I right click on the Modem, I only have the following options but not the “Rollback Driver” option as you are pointing out:

Update Driver…….

Disable

Uninstall

Scan for hardware changes

Properties

On a different note, I am not still clear how I can compare driver dates, as there is not any indication in the Drivers & Downloads page

I was wondering, since you have a good picture of my PC (model, operating system and modem type), would you please run a check see if this is the right file?

Thanks again for your time.

The only time you should RIGHT click is when you first click on the My Computer icon. After you navigate to the Modems section in Device Manager and see your modem listed LEFT click on the modem twice and you will see the driver tab, where you can find the Rollback Driver option. It works this way for both Windows XP Pro and Windows XP Home edition. I have a PC desktop running XP Pro and a notebook running XP Home and this was just now verified.

The R98291.EXE appears to be a modem utility and I don't know if it also comes with the driver. You can download and run it and if your driver isn't updated afterward go to the Dimension 1100 driver & download page here and download the driver.

Hi RoadiJeff,

Thanks for the navigation to the “Rolleback” option, I am now clear on that and also found the related Driver file from ”Driver & Download“ page, which is R73044.EXE.

When I started installing R98291.EXE file, a little interface appeared with the following information.

Comunications: Communications: Conexant 56K V.9x DFVc Modem, Diagnostics Utility

Communications: Conexant 56K V.9x DFVc Modem, Diagnostics Utility Version A05 for DC051, DXP051, DM051, DE051DV051, DXG05

Dimension: 4600C, 8300/8400N, 2400, XPGen2 4700, XPGen3, 4600, 4800, 5000, 3000, 9100, XPS (Gen5), XPS Gen4, 5100

OptiPlex: GX620, GX520, 210L, 170L, 170L, GX280, SX280, 160L, GX60, GX270

Precision: 360/360N, 650, 450, 670, 470, 370,380, 690, 490

On Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Media Centre Edition, Windows XP Professional

Language: Arabic, Brazilian, Portuguese, Chinese –S, Chinese –T, Danish, Dutch, English, French and so on.

Looking at the above information, I think this file (R98291.EXE) and the related Drive file (R73044.EXE) is not applicable to the model of my PC (Windows XP Home Edition).

I aborted the installation.  What do you think?

I don't see a Dimension 1100 in there but if you got to those downloads via your service tag I would think they would work.  Remember, if the driver doesn't fix your fax problem you can use the rollback option to get back to the one you were using.

I am not clear about your comment "I don't see a Dimension 1100 in there".  I am not sure, what you mean by that.

As I mentioned, I aborted installing the file, becuase the information in the install interface did not indicate my PC model and wanted to be sure on that.

Since you are sure, I will go head with the installation and if it does not work, as you mentioned, I will use the Rollback option to get back to my original Driver.

Cheers,

I am not clear about your comment "I don't see a Dimension 1100 in there".  I am not sure, what you mean by that.

Your message from earlier this morning mentioned the following Dell systems that the downloads supposedly work with:

Dimension: 4600C, 8300/8400N, 2400, XPGen2 4700, XPGen3, 4600, 4800, 5000, 3000, 9100, XPS (Gen5), XPS Gen4, 5100

Let me know how things turned out. I am curious if the driver update fixed the problem after all the time we've spent here.

RoadiJeff,

Prior to approaching people on this Forum concerning the problem with Fax, I sent a mail to BVRP Support Team (USA) asking for their views.  It took a while, but I got a response this evening.  I was provided with a link and suggestion of downloading/installing a file that resolved the problem.

I am happy to let you know that currently the Fax Tool on my PC is in good working order and sent out this evening before responding to your message.   Shame, we will never find out if these files where the right ones!!!!!

I would like to thank you for your help/concerns and would have bought you a drink or two if you where in my neck of woods.

Best regards,

Persian Cat

Well, if you're ever on a bicycle near the St. Louis area send me a fax :smileyhappy: before you pedal through. That's the "roadi" part of my screen name. Glad it's finally working.
