Service Control Center Event ID 7026

Question

I have a Dell Dimension 4700 running Windows XP SP2. There is NO virus or antispyware on it, but...

I find in the Event Viewer the following system event record:

I can find these drivers by going to: MyComputer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>View>Show Hidden Devices, and they are there with a yellow shield with an exclamation mark on them. All show "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed (Code 24). Each show Root_Legacy_(name of driver)

My pc seems to be running fine right now - I just am afraid of what's in the future with this kind of warning. Anyone have any suggestions to get rid of this Event? It happens at each boot/startup.

I think you have provided me with the explanation for this - at least the one I wanted to hear - lol.   I really appreciate it - been looking for this for quite some time now - and have considered reinstallation/repair of Windows even.   Now I feel more secure and will just leave it as is.   Thanks!

have identified some of the drivers - but I am not sure what the id means - below are the descriptions coded to each driver. Does this help determine if I really need them? This was a refurbished pc - is it possible Dell left these drivers on the pc when it was refurbished? If so, more than like likely, some of them are not needed. I am running wireless network - using Linksys Wireless USB Adapter WUSB11 Version 2.6. I am not sure all this other stuff is needed.

BTW - this list seems to change a little each time. But most of them remain on the list. I am really confused. Appreciate your help.

I agree that you probably don't need those drivers and can be safely removed. But only you can verify if you have SCSI controllers, Disk Array Controller, etc. or not. Use the free program WinDriversBackup to identify and backup the drivers.

I will also suggest that you use Belarc Advisor to get the information about all the installed hardware in your Dimension 4700. You will need that information later if you have to download device drivers from Dell.

A Clean XP Install will of course fix your system. Don't forget to backup first your important data to non-OS partition or external media (CD/DVD, USB flash drive, USB hard drive, networked computer, etc.)

You are welcome - you are right - a lot of reboot work - but it solved the problem - patience (which I don't have very much of) sometimes pays off.   Thanks for your concern and posts.   It helps to know there are people out there willing to help.
