Set Google as default Search Engine with keywords in Address Bar
SORRY FOR THE REPEATED POST!!!
Right, I just spent 15 minutes writing a whole essay out to explain everything - but then hit F5 accidentally beofre submitting. Ha ha, yes, very funny. So I'm gonna cut to the chase.
HKCU/Software/Micrsoft/Internet Explorer/SearchUrl
(Deafult)=http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%s
provider=gogl
When I search into the address bar, IE returns the google.com page, e.g.
http://www.google.com/search?q=QUERYHERE
But I want it to go
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=QUERYHERE
so that it shows the radio buttons for 'the web' and 'pages from the UK'.
And... sometimes when searching, it stops searching - it shows a blank page and this URL:
http://auto.search.msn.com/response.asp?MT=QUERYHERE&srch=4&prov=gogl&utf8
But, when I hit F5 on that, it searches back to google.com (I really don't understand why it does this)
Other info:
I have gone back and forth to these Registry keys so please don't annoy me:
HKCU/Software/Micrsoft/Internet Explorer/Search
SearchAssistant=http://www.google.co.uk/ie
HKCU/Software/Micrsoft/Internet Explorer/Main
Search Bar=http://www.google.co.uk/ie
Search Page=http://www.google.co.uk/
I KNOW that it should be
http://www.google.com/ie in the above strings but I am really pi**ed off that I changed ALL my google entries in the Registry to google.co.uk instead.
I also know that you can enter prefix words before the search query, like
g or
google, and that will search with the predefined URL (with %s) in it - and I know you can set this with Tweak UI. But this isn't what I want - I don't want to have to type in the extra lettering because I shouldn't have to. Come on, IE!
So I figure that the auto.search.msn.com thing has something to do with it (simply because it stole the
gogl string)... but I don't know where to look.
Please help me if you can!
