I saw something about this on a site called "The Elder computer Geek". The person gives the instructions how to slipstream SP2.

It is my understanding that MS is going to send a new CD to all "retail boxed" XP owners which includes XP, SP1 and SP2.

This would not include OEM, such as Dell. Does Dell plan to reissue CDs to include XP, SP1 and SP2, as MS is doing, to all Dell owners?

Slipstreaming: Try AutoStreamer (Freeware) by the same folks that gives us AutoPatcher.

Sorry about the lack of links.

What is your source to prove that MS is going to send every person who has a retail copy of XP a NEW XP CD with SP1 and SP2 ???

I DONT think so ...  It is up to you do download it and install it !!!

DELL: They have NEVER sent people updated CD's with the latest SP(1/2) ... you have always had to download the SP from MS, then install it yourself.

New DELL systems will however come with the latest SP CD ... In this case, "Windows XP with Integrated SP2"

I'll try to find a better source where I first read about this, but for the meantime read into this newsletter: http://www.windowssecrets.com/040819/

Well i slipsteamed sp2 last night and ran it with microsoft virtual pc and all went perfect. there are a lot of links out there and most seem hard or confusing at times and the best link i found came from http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp
that is from paul thurrott's site. very nice site for anything xp, also he is recomended buy microsoft. just make sure to change 1 file from the dell cd if it already has sp1 the file is svcpack.inf. delete it and replace with with the original from a xp cd or just leave it out then the update will happen. this is the way i did it, and i know there are a lot of ways just thought i would add to the list. so you know this took me about three hours thats fromstart to running it in a virtual machine. sorry for the type o's
