Slow network browsing in Windows XP
Hi
The network browsing in windows explorer has become so slow that ctrl alt delete shows it not responding and the CPU usage goes to 100%. On further investigation about this problem I came across the following page from Microsoft which describes the symptoms that my PC is experiencing. When I try to get the hot-fix from Microsoft the website doesn't allow, me pointing to my vendor (Dell). My question is :- where can I get this hot-fix and does it seem to be the correct one.
page is:- http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=841978
Also the link pointing at this is:-http://www.ss64.com/nt/slow_browsing.html
Regards
Adrian

You have to call Microsoft to get this Hotfix, not released to the public, a fix for now.
"To work around this problem, create and use network shortcuts outside My Network Places"

I checked the version numbers against the ones on my PC, the ones on my PC are newer versions, so the hotfix is just reverting back to older versions of these files that you currently have on your PC. If you can find a machine that has these versions (same service pack level) then you can copy them to your machine. If you have Service pack 2 then there are only 2 files you need, SP1 you need 7 files. Copy them to your windows/system 32 folder and windows/system32/dllcache folder.
