SOLVED!!!How can I remove "read-only" from my photos?

Here below is another way ( the header says delete but it also works for moving files etc... ) the Moveonboot program moves the files befor windows has a chance to lock them.

OK!  I will try that first thing tomorrow!  I wish I could try it right now, but I have to go to bed (it's 3:30am and my daughter won't let me sleep in LOL).  Thank you so much...you really have no idea how much I appreciate this!

Yes, I have done that about 2 weeks ago (I tried that and also something in DOS, but kept getting an error code because I have no clue about scripts).   I will do that again, though...just to make sure I did it correctly.  Thanks.

Try this:

 

Start the computer booting and tap F8 when it begins start-up. On the selection screen select booting into safe mode. When booted in safe mode try top copy and past the files to a new folder in a location of your choosing. Check the attributes of the pasted files to make sure they are not read only etc then reboot and try working with the files you pasted...

Oh, and I have tried to remove the "read-only" on the file by itself, the "My Pictures" folder, and the "My Documents" folder...all with the same result.

When I try to open the photo file it says, "Could not open c:\Documents and Settings..etc... because the file is locked.  Use the "properties" command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.

 

So when I go to Windows Explorer and try to unlock (remove "read-only" ) it starts to do it then a box pops up that says, "An error occurred applying attributes to the file C:\Documents and Settings....jpg.  Access is denied.  Then it gives me 4 buttons....Ignore, Ignore All, Retry, and Cancel".   When I ignore then the box continuously pops up for each of the files that are locked.  I can only Ignore All or Cancel.

I would assume that I own them because I am the admin and the one who put them there.  How do I see who has "ownership"?  I right clicked on the file and went to properties, but I don't see anything there.

Who is the owner of those files?

 

Right click the folder and take ownership of the folder and all of the subfolder contents etc...

Oh, and do you think it's possible I have some horrible virus that my scanner isn't picking up?  If so, any idea what it would be?  That was just a though since none of this stuff seems to be working.  Thanks again.

Well, nothing has worked so far (even the unlocker program).  :(  I haven't tried the last link you provided, but will try that this weekend.  I just wanted to update this so you wouldn't think I just took your advice and ran!  I really appreciate the help!

None of that worked.  Not even the Moveonboot program...it says access is denied on the files when I try to move/rename or copy them.  :( 

 

Any other ideas???

OMGoodness, I did it!  ALL of my photos are now viewable and I can edit them in PS again!  I feel so stupid, though.  It was because they were being "shared"!  When I removed them from the shared folder and made them "private" then it fixed the problem!!!!  YAY!!!  Thanks for all of your help pcgeek!
