I am seriously fixing to pull every hair out of my head piece by piece if this problem is not resolved SOON!!! During the last week I have had VERY frequent script error messages which pop up continually whenever I am on the internet on any site. Now, the blooming thing has started redirecting most sites to that google error page that pops up. I cannot do ANYTHING on the blooming computer. I thought perhaps it was IE7, so I uninstalled that. Didn't help! I thought perhaps it is the router that we have had to install because of my husband's job AND their insistance that he have a laptop at his disposal. The laptop is not having any problems at all, but the dang desktop is! This is really making me crazy. Is there anyone out there who has any suggestions at all? I am pretty ticked at Dell right now because I called to ask them about it and the want 40 bucks and cannot even be sure that they will help. That just irritated me a little more. If anyone can, please help me!!!
No single scan will clean everything. Get CleanUp, and remove temporary files (run after every scan): http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/download.html Update your antivirus application and try AVG Anti-Spyware Free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-spyware-free/lng/us/tpl/v5 If you have no antivirus installed, feel free to get AVG Anti-Virus Free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5 CounterSpy (free trial): http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-Office/CounterSpy/Download/ It is preferable to run scans in Safe Mode, empty Quarantine of every scanner, and temporary files after each scan. Since infection may recreate itself, try running all scans one after another and don’t reboot. Use some online scanners to double check (I am just afraid that they may not work with IE7): http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner Make sure to remove these tools (except antivirus) after you are done cleaning, otherwise your computer will be very slow. You may also want to use some passive protection - Make sure your Windows (or other) Firewall is on with no exclusions, Spybot (Immunization feature), SpywareBlaster, alter your hosts file (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) and get a normal Internet browser (http://www.opera.com). Good luck!
My Norton Antivirus was about to expire -- just reinstalled the 2007 version of that w/updates. I am at a loss. None of this is going on with the laptop. Could it be the router causing all of the problems?
Where is the security slider set to, High, Medium High, or Medium ? Since you are behind a router and have an Antivirus program you should be able to get away with a Medium setting.
Then I would go into the " Custom Level " and Disable Scripting as this shouldn't be needed for anything a normal person would use on a day to day basis. I think this is normally disabled by default.
Was this happening before or just after you reinstalled Norton? This may be a key.
i suggest u reinstall the operating system. to do that insert the windows xp reinstallation xp in the disk drive. a windows will appear with different options. dont do anything. just close the window and then restart the computer through the start menu. during startup, when u see the windows logo keep pressing the F12 key repeadedly. u will get a black screen with different options. use up or down arrow keys to selet cd-rom drive and press enter. then follow the instructions on the screen. ull be on ur own now, but its very easy. just read the text before u choose and options. i suggest u choose the option to delete partition c and reinstall a fresh copy of window. this will delete all preembeded free software from dell. dont worry if u delete any of these programs cause u can install them again if u want from suppot.dell.com. u dont need none of those programs. they are just for advertising. i suggest u choose a long format when formating the disk. after the reinstallation of windows, ull need to install the necessary drives. u can do that by going to support.dell.com and entering ur service tag and all the necessary drivers for ur system will displayed. just one caution in mind. before u do any of this, go to support.dell.com and download the driver for connecting to the internet, as u will not be able to connect to the internet without the driver. u can call dell in case u cant download the file and theyll send u a free cd with the drivers needed. ur computer will be much faster, easier managable, less junky files and folders and ull be in control of ur computer. (i hope this helps good luck) I THINK THIS IS WHAT U REALLY NEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
