SP2 Firewall won't start after resume
After resuming from suspend my wireless connection remains down and I cannot restart it (although the Dell Wireless Utility shows its connect I can't renew DHCP). Seems like it is connected to a Firewall problem.
The XP firewall is down. Trying to start it results in 'Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet connection sharing?' I click yes and then get this message:'Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet connection sharing (ICS) service.' Trying to start the service manually from SCM I receive an error message telling me 'Access Denied' although I have administrator rights.
I have to reboot to solve the problem. Anyone ideas?

I am having the exact same problem.
I assume that you also get 2 Generic Host Processes errors at start up? And sometimes the "Fisher Price" XP theme isn't applied to the UI?
This really is a pain in the rear-end. I have tried disabling all the non-microsoft services at boot up (through msconfig) but the problem still occurs.
Any help would be greatly received.

Just to let you know, I managed to solve this problem.
I stopped usig the Dell Utility for managing my Wireless Network Connection. insteead, Window now controls it... and low and behold, the problem wewnt away.
Hope this helps others.

Hi,
Since I have installed SP2 I had never uncounter this problem, ... but yesterday I
have undocked my computer and boot up the computer and end up with the same
problem. I have done some tests and here are my comments:
1- SP2 was installed while my computer was docked and everything works fine.
2- Trying to undock the computer while XP running doesn't work.
3- Shuttting down the computer and starting it UNDOCKED will end up with the
following boot error window

4- Then after a while my Ad-Aware (Watch) send me the following registry
modification alert:
Attempt to delete a registry value
Root: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Value: UserFaultCheck
5- From this moment, I have the following problems:
Can’t list my network connections.
Windows network doesn’t work at all.
Can’t get windows Firewall to start or to be configured.
The TCP/IP and the Internet work well after an “un-docked� reboot!
6- Docking back the laptop solves all the aforementioned problems. Undocking
results in all the problems coming back again!
7- At the beginning, SP2 was installed when the laptop was docked. Hence, I tried
to re-install SP2 with the laptop “undocked� to make sure that the problems come
from the SP2 installation. The result is the same.
This wasn’t an issue in SP1 and only occurs when SP2 is installed.
8- Enabling or disabling the firewall doesn’t solve the problem.
9- Applying the solution proposed by markstokes hasen’t solved the problem either.
10- Finally, I have noticed that when booting the laptop “docked� and “undocked�,
two different hardware profiles were selected. Copying the one used when “docked�
to a new one and choosing it when booting “undocked� completely solved all
problems!
Apparently, the firewall embedded in SP2 has only been applied to the current
hardware profile available when installing the package i.e. the “docked� one!
Choosing another hardware profile will prevent this module to work correctly,
which will disable all features it provides.
