Spy Sweeper will NOT load at startup

Hello, Webroot's Spy Sweeper will not load at start up (Yes, I've selected that option). When the Dell XPS boots it shows the Spy Sweeper splash screen but the icon never shows in the tray. I have to load it manually. When I do so, it runs, but as an open program. I can't figure it out.

Thanks, again.

You might consider uninstalling then reinstalling it.

Richard,

Sorry I posted before including the following:

If you do find that Spysweeper actually is running and you just don't see the tray icon, check HERE for a possible solution.  Let us know.

Is it possible that it IS starting when you boot-up, and the tray icon is just hidden.  Hard to imagine the splash screen coming up without the program starting.  Try checking Task Manager Processes (Control-Alt-Delete) to see if it isn't running after boot.

I believe that is all spysweeper does. It does not monitor incoming malware etc. It is not a spyware monitor. It is a spyware remover. For spyware monitor you will need something like Spyware Blaster which monitors and looks for spyware before it gets installed on your machine.

byker49..

I've had Webroot's Spy Sweeper installed since the first of this year and speaking from a personal use basis Spy Sweeper does in fact monitor multiple components of both the registry and IE  for changes to everything from the Hosts files to Active X install attempts to home page attempted changes to attempted additions to the Favorites list and much more. The program can be scheduled to regularly downloand both program and spyware definition updates - the latter being an included one year subscription with the purchase and renewable after the first year.

But don't just take my word for it: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1829262,00.asp

And here: http://pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,122496,pg,2,00.asp

Stating one's belief and/or opinion as fact is a disservice at best and could cause needless concern (and cost) for people who come to these boards looking for advice or assistance with problems.

To add to my previous post: The Spy Sweeper icon is in the system tray because I reinstalled it, but it DOES NOT show as a running program in Task Manager.

Thanks for your suggestions. I appreciate the input.

The only way the icon will appear in the tray is if I REINSTALL the program as you suggested; then the program icon appears and all is well. If I reboot the computer the program will not load automatically. When I load it manually it runs, as any open program does, but there is no icon only the minimized program name.

Thanks, again,

For comparison info, spysweeper.exe is shown in my Task Manager listing under processes.

Thanks, Art.

I just got around to trying out your suggestion (We're trying to recover from a hurricane here in Miami).

It worked. SpySweeper was running even though the icon did not show. Thanks again for your assistance.
